Perspective On Purpose

When you look into the mirror, what do you see?

Do you see a face that changes with each birthday?

Do you see a few more wrinkles that you gain with each birthday?

Do you see roots that need to be touched up?

Do you see your eye color?

Do you see your smile?

Do you see you?

Along my journey, I continue to engulf thousands of pages of books, articles, quotes, and countless hours of podcasts on mindfulness, intuition, and spirituality. In recent years, I remember reading that instead of spending so much time seeking out your purpose in this lifetime, try understanding the purpose of life and how you fit into it.

This perspective about purpose profoundly touched me.

I sed to worry about making sure I was doing all the things to fit in and be accepted. Did I look right? Did I make enough money to keep up with fitting in with the lifestyle expectations? And so on. I also used to be a person who would get stumped, stopped, or struck with an unwavering experience that would send my empathic self into a tailspin, asking:

  • What is my purpose?

  • What did I do with myself?

  • Who am I?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

Yikes! Figuring out and determining why we were created and why we exist is a tall order. Until we stop—seriously, just stop.  Accept what is and then determine a new direction.

Instead of being confused about your life's purpose, discover its purpose and then find where you fit in and where it feels good today. And then give it a try again tomorrow.
